Abstract

Adolescence is notably characterized by behaviors of stubbornness and defiance. Hence, this study aimed to identify these behaviors among high school students. The study sample consisted of 20 male and female students exhibiting stubbornness and defiant behaviors, selected from Al-Takina Wad Othman Co-educational Public High School in Bahri Locality, Khartoum State—the researcher's workplace as a school psychologist. A purposive sampling method was employed to select the sample from a total school population of 200 students. The sample encompassed various academic grades and was representative of the target population due to its small size. The researcher adopted a descriptive method. To achieve the study objectives, a stubbornness and defiance scale was administered, comprising 15 items for stubbornness behavior and 15 items for defiant behavior. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), employing t-tests, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and the Chi-square test to examine the study variables. The study concluded that stubbornness and defiance behaviors were notably high among high school students. Furthermore, the results indicated no statistically significant differences in stubbornness and defiance behaviors attributable to gender (male, female) or academic grade level.
